This week’s Hero & Zero

YBF’s Hero of the week is Richard Littlejohn…for saying what we were all surely thinking about London’s ‘performance’ at the Olympic closing ceremony. Dwarfed by thousands of synchronised and colourful Chinese dancers, viewers were treated to the embarrassing sight of a London Bus slowly crawling into the stadium – looking as if it were completely lost after a wrong turn. Add to this the cringing ‘contemporary dance’ act that looked like a GCSE devised piece and you’re left with a pretty laughable performance from the London 2012 organisers. Littlejohn takes up the story brilliantly, here. (link).
This week’s Zero is the Home Office…for its obsession with policing on the cheap. Not content with replacing actual policemen with Community Support Officers, the Home Office has now allowed nearly 1,500 civilians the powers to fine people for dropping litter and other such offences. Apparently, a red, white and black badge will identify those civilians that have been granted the powers. Didn’t something similar exist in Nazi Germany? I think they were called Block Wardens. Whatever happened to actual policemen enforcing the law?
