It’s back: Hero and Zero of the Week

Friday, January 30th, 2009

After a short absence, YBF’s “Hero and Zero of the Week” column has returned. Every Friday we’ll give our two pence worth on one figure from the week who deserves praise, and one who deserves a telling off.

This Week’s Hero Is…

…Eric Pickles – the new Conservative Party Chairman. Eric is a good friend of YBF, and spoke at the YBF5 training conference in October. It was there that he spoke with great passion about the work of young activists – a sentiment he echoed at the launch of London Conservative Future a couple of weeks ago. Eric is a great campaigner and a man with real grass roots experience. YBF welcomes this news.

This Week’s Zero Is…

…Dawn Butler MP, for her cringing efforts to cosy up to the new US President. Dawn proudly shows a letter on her website from Barack Obama. In this (badly written) letter the new President writes that Dawn Butler is “bright, intelligent and determined” and that we should all be “incredibly proud” of her. The only problem is, Obama didn’t write the endorsement – Dawn Butler’s office did, then got him to sign it. It’s just not quite the same is it?
